Kakching Khunou College was established on 12th July, 1981 for the enlistment of Higher Education in the rural area of the southern part of Manipur. It is situated at Umathel, Kakching Khunou, Kakching District at a distance of about 62 KM from the state capital Imphal along the Burma-Sugnu road wher the valley and hill of the four districts Chandel, Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Kakching meet. The Motto of the College based on Knowledge, Humanism and Patience is reflected in the Emblem.

The rising sun and a wavy water surface at the centre signify knowledge and devotion respectively which indicate that knowledge without devotion is dry and devoid of dedication for the humanity. Thus, knowledge earned by an individual from the institution is meant to utilize for the society with a motive of dedication.

The two hands clasping each other at the central portion of the periphery of both sides in the crest signify fraternity and co-operation with love among human beings and is leading towards humanism. The petals encircling the rising sun and wavy water surface symbolize love, tenderness and patience. The crest signifies knowledge, devotion and patience, so that every individual who receive knowledge from the institution may have lifelong impression of the motto.

The college is the only learning centre of higher education of students belonging to SC, ST, OBC and MINORITIES in the southern part of the state. It is Co-Educational institute offering 19 subjects in two streams i.e. Arts and Science.

The college was permanently affiliated to Manipur University in 1993 and also included under 2(f) and 12 (b) of UGC Act of 1956 in 1996. The college was extended grant-in-aid in 1987 under the initiative of Shri. Kh. Angangyaima Singh, Founder Secretary G.B. and M. Babu Singh the then local MLA. Recently the college was assessed by NAAC and accredited at grade ‘B’ with points of 2.27 in the CGPA in 2016 and the college was converted into the full-fledged Government College by a cabinet decision held on 28th March, 2018.

The college has one computer lab, with internet facilities and computerized library. The multipurpose Hall, Girls’ Hostel, Swimming Pool and Indoor Stadium are other attractions of the college. There are well equipped labs for practical involving subjects. It has its own canteen, cycle shade and car park inside the college campus. The college has a spacious playground for various events in Games and Sports i.e. Football, Volleyball, Basketball and other athletics etc. Moreover, a multi gym facility is also provided in the Department of Physical & Health Education and Sports.

Kakching Khunou College has been taking part in State Level, National Level and International Level Workshop / Seminar from time to time to improve faculty support in the College.
